WILL OF ARTHUR BIRD
In the name of God Amen I Arthur Bird do make this my last Will and Testament first I recommend
my soul into the hands of Almighty God who gave it my body to the Earth to be buried in a decent
Christian manner at the discretion of my Executors hereafter named and as touching such worldly
goods as it hath pleased God to blefs me with I dispose of the same in the following manner
First I desire that all my Just debts be paid
To my beloved wife Elizabeth Bird I lend her during her widowhood the use of the plantation
whereon I now live One feather Bed and furniture one negro winch called Rachael and after She
should Marry or die the negroe to be sold by my Executors and the feather bed and furniture and the
money arising therefrom to be divided in like manner as Peter and other property is to be disposed of
Mentioned in the latter part of this my will and the land to vest in my said son Hugh G Bird
To my daughter Martha Owens wife of Philip Owens I give one negro Girl by the name of Betsey to
her and the ifsue of her body lawfully begotten forever.
To my son Joseph Bird I give and devise a certain tract of land Situate lying and being in the District
of Marion on the East side of Tobys Creek supposed to contain 233 Acres whereon the said Joseph
now resides also all the lands on the West side of Tobys Creek next adjoining the Great Peedee River
Also the following negroes Caty Sarah. Billy Sheppard and Fortune to him and the lawfully begotten
ifsue of his body forever
To my daughter Anna Bird I give the following negroes Nell Murr Jeffrey Epraim Caralina and and a
good horse Bridle and Saddle to her and the lawfully begotten ifsue of her body forever
To my Son Hugh G Bird I give and devise all the lands I own Situate lying and being on the District
of Marion on the East side of Tobys Creek including the land whereon I now reside also the
following negroes. Dinah Jim Dick Hector Norah Larman and America to his and the heirs of his
body lawfully begotten forever
To my daughter Mary Bird (or Mary Ann Bird sometimes called) I give the following negroes Fanny
Abram Perry Ann Hardy and Mahalia to her and the lawfully begotten ifsue of her body forever
To my two grandchildren a son and a daughter of my desd son Peter Bird I give One
hundred and fifty dollars each to be paid by my sons Joseph Bird and Hugh G Bird when
said children shall arrive at the age of Twenty one years.
To my daughter Maria Herring wife of Wilson Herring I give One dollar
To my daughter Charlotte Herring wife of Edmund Herring I give One Doller
All the rest and residue of the property I may die pofsefsed of not in this will bequeathed
including a negro fellow I desire shale be sold by my Executors and the money arising therefrom to be equally
divided among Joseph Bird Anna Bird Hugh G Bird Mary M Bird and Alafair Bird
To my daughter Alafair Bird I give the following negroes Hannah Zilpha Saippie Cooper and London
and to the lawfully begotten heirs or ifsue of her body forever.
Lastly I nominate constitute and appoint Edwd B Wheeler and Joseph Bird Executors of
this my last wile and Testament Witnefs my hand seal this tenth day of August A D 1835
