State of South Carolina Will of
Marion District Mary Gregg
Know all men that I Mary Gregg of the State and District
aforesaid bearing in mind the uncertainty of life and
being now sound in mind and body do make this my last
will and testament to wit. Item 1st. I direct first
after my decease that my funeral expenses and all just
debts shall be paid from my estate.
Item 2nd. I give and bequeath unto my brother Joseph
Greg all my negroes and the increase from this time to
my decease to him his heirs and afsigns forever vis:
Satira, Magur, Mariah and children Dannul and Joe, Ann
and children Arista and Riskey (? Pinkey ?), Harry and
Calvin; also my stock of cattle horses, hogs, plantation
utensils of every description, together with the
household and kitchen furniture except that hereinafter
named in item 3rd, the whole to him his heirs and
afsigns forever.
Item 3rd. I give and bequeath unto my neices Mary Jane
Gregg, Sarah Jane Hudson, my grand neice Elizabeth
Stewart Davis and Scharlotte Adams each one bed, bedstead
and furniture belonging to the same also to my niece
Amanda Caroline Davis my loom and spinning wheel.
Item 4th. I give a bequeath unto my nephews Thomas
McDonough Hudson and William Samuel Hudson one hundred
dollars each to be paid by my executor in the twelve
months after my decease to them their heirs and afsigns
forever, also to my neice Sarah Jane Hudson one hundred
dollars to be paid by my executor in twelve months after
my decease provided she has been married at that time and
in no case shall the money be paid until that does take
place.
Item 5th. I appoint and constitute my brother Joseph
Gregg my executor of this my last will and testament to
carry into effect the foregoing will signed this
sixteenth day of November one thousand eight hundred and
forty nine and seventy fourth of Amer. Independence
signed and sealed in the presence of
