WILL OF
WILLIAM GRIGGS
IN THE NAME OF GOD AMEN I William Griggs of Marion District and
province of South Carolina Planter, being Sick and weak in Body
but of Pefect mind and memory thanks be given unto God Therefore
Calling unto mind the mortality of my Body and knowing that it is
Appointed unto all men once to Die do make and ordain this my
last will and testament, that is to say Principally and first of
all I give and Recommend my Soul into the hands of God that gave
it, and my Body I Recommend to the Earth to be buryed in a Decent
Christian Burial at the discretion of my Executors nothing Doubt-
ing but at the General Resurrection I shall receive the same again
by the Mighty power of God and as touching such worldly Estate
wherewith it hath pleased God to Blefs me in this life I give de-
mise and dispose of the same in the following manner and form------
Imprimis I Will that my lawfull Debtf be Discharged and paid,Item
I will that my Negroe man named Jack, have his freedom together
with all my wearing apparel Except such part as Shall be hereafter
mentioned and the above named Negro Jack is to Remain on the plan-
tation of Mrs Mary Davis and to be under her protection. Item I
give and bequeath unto Beloved Nephew William Godbolt one Bay Mare
Item will and Bequeath unto my Beloved Nephew William Collins one
sorrell Horse. Item I give and Bequeath unto my Beloved friend
James Davis one Shot Gun Item I give and Bequath unto my Beloved
friend Zachariah Godbolt one Saddle and Bridle-I Also do constitute
and Appoint my Beloved Friends Zachariah Godbolt Demsey Collins and
Mary Davis Sole Executors and Executrix to my last Will and
Testament and do hereby utterly Revoke and disannul all former Wills
Bequeast or Legacies by me in anywise made heretofore, Acknowledging
Ratifying and Confirming this to be my last will and Testament. In
Witnefs whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this Nineteenth
day of March in the year of lur lord one thousand Eight Hundred
