WILL OF
JAMES HUDSON
In the name of God amen ) I James Hudson of Marion District
and State of South Carolina, feeling my bodily health declining,
but composed in mind and memory (thanks to Almighty God for his
mercies) and knowing that it is appointed for all men once to die, do
make, constitute and appoint this to be my last will and Testament in
the manner and form following
Viz. 1st . After my decease I request my body to be decently buried
at the discretion of my Executors, and all my Just debts to be paid---
2nd . Item, I Give and brequeath unto my beloved wife Jannet Hudson
the one third part of my personal property, Also all that plantation or
tract of land, which I lately purchased from Asa Yarborough containing
two hundred and thirty acres together with an addition of twenty acres
more including my buildings, to her, her heirs and afsigns forever---
3rd Item, I Give and bequeath unto my beloved children Viz. James
Wilson, Elisabeth Herriot, Jannet Campaign, and John Nelson, the
whole remaining part of my property both real and personal to be
equally divided amongst them as they arrive to the age of twenty one
years, or marriage to them their heirs and Afsigns forever---
4th . It is my request that as much of my perishable property be sold
by my Executors as they may think expedient, and the remaining part of
the whole be kept as one common stock for the use and support of my
family, untill a second marriage of my now surviving wife and in such
case, my Executors may, should they deem it expedient give up the whole
of the property into their pofsefsion to be dealt out unto my children
as they arrive of age
5th . It is also my request that my new dwelling house now on

hand be completed in a decent manner, likewise to be painted, and have
good brick Chimneys built - my children to be education and should
there be a balance of surplus monies, I also request that it shall be laid out
in the purchase of young negroes for my children all of which to be done
at the will and pleasure of my Executors
6th . and lastly, I do hereby constitute and appoint my beloved wife Jannet
Hudson, David Bigham, and John Gregg, my Extrx and Extrs of this my
last will and testament --- And I do hereby disannul revoke and make
void all other wills heretofore made, and acknowledge this to be my last
will and testament in witnefs whereof I have hereunto set my hand and
Seal this thirtyeth day of November in the year of our Lord one thousand
eight hundred and nine
