WILL OF
ANN PHILLIPS
State of South Carolina }
Marion District }
In the name of God Amen. I Ann Phillips of the State and District aforesaid
being in perfect health of body and mind thanks be to God for the same
But calling to mind the uncertainty of life do make this my last will and
testament in manner and form following to wit…
First it is my Exprefs will and desire after my Death that all my Just debts
be paid
secondly I lone to my eldest daughter Rebecca Rowell one Negro boy by the name
of Tom and at her death I give him to her lawfull Issue
Thirdly I give unto my Executors one Negro girl by the name of Teaner and her
two children Mary and primus in trust for my Daughter Ann D Dawsey to her and
her lawfull Ifsue
Fourthly I give and bequeath unto the two orphan children of my Deceased
Daughter Jane Skipper namely Mary Elisabeth Skipper and Sarah Ann Zilpha Skipper
one Negro boy by the name of Billy and I therefore appoint my son
William L. Phillips guardean to act for the above named two children
Fifthly I give to my Executors five negros namely one Negro woman by the name
of Miley and her four children namely Cyrus Alphred Lieueasor and Willson in
trust for my Daughter Hannah Kirton to her and her lawful Ifsue
My son. William L. Phillips has already had his portion of my estate It is my
Exprefs will and desire that the Negroes herein named to my children is souly
for there use and benefit during there natural life and not to be subject to
any debts contracts or engagements of their present or any future husbands and
at the death of my daughters or any one of them the property as above named to
my children is then to be the property of their lawful Ifsue and should my
children or any one of them die without leaving lawful Ifsue living at their
death then the respective property named to them as above lone is then to
return to the surviveing brothers and sisters and there remain subject to the
use of my children and their lawful Issue
And lastly I do hereby nominate constitute and appoint my son William L. Phillips
and Archibald Gasque Executors of this my last will and testament in witnefs
whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this the sixth day of January one
thousand Eight hundred and forty six and the seventieth year of american independence.
Signed sealed declared and published by the above named Ann Phillips as and for
her last will and testament who in her presense and in presense of Each other
and at her request
