Will of Frances Port
In the name of God Amen I Frances Port of Peedee District of Marion and
State of South Carolina widow of Thomas Port being far advanced in age weak
in body but of Perfect mind and memory thanks be given to God Calling to mind
the mortality of my body and Knowing that it is appointed for me once to die
do make and ordain this my last Will and Testament, that is to say,
prrincipaly and first of all I give and recommend my soul into the hands of
Almighty God that gave it and my body I recommend unto the earth to be buried
in a decent Christian Burial at the discresion of my executors nothing
doubting but at the general resurrection I shall receive the same again by the
Mighty power of God And as touching such worldly goods where with it hath
pleased God to Bless me with in this Life I give devise and dispose of the same
in the following manner and Terms as follows.
I give devise and bequeath unto Mary Port Snow daughter of Thomas Humphries
and the heirs of her body forever, all lands I now own. commonly called
Ports Ferry lying and being on both sides of Peedee with all the right and
appertanances thereunto belonging One Negro wench Judah with her future
increase My Bed and furniture all my Silver plate and four Cows and Calfs but
Should the said Mary Port Snow die without leaving lawfull issue the whole of
the above property to be equaly divided among the children of the
Revd Thomas Humphries Share and Share alike.
also I give and bequeath unto Elizabeth Witherspoon Humphries daughter of
Thomas Humphries one negro wench Patty with the future increase of the
Said Patty but should the said Elisabeth Humphries leaving no issue then the
said Negro wench Patty with her increase to be divided Equaly among the
children of the Revd Thomas Humphries
also I give and bequeath unto John Humphries son of Thomas Humphries one negro
boy named Jim but should he the said John Humphries died leaving no issue the
said negro boy Jim to be Eaqualy divided between the children of the
Revd Thomas Humphries
also I give and bequeath unto Frances Rebecca Humphries daughter of Thomas
Humphries one negro Girl Hagar with her future increase but should the said
Frances R. Humphries die leaving no issue the said negro Girl Hagar with her
increase to be equally divided among the children of Thomas Humphries
Also I give and bequeath unto Sarah Capers Humphries daughter
of Thomas Humphries one negro Girl Mary with her future increase but should the
said Sarah C. Humphries die leaving no issue the said negro Girl Mary with her
increase to be equally divided among the children of Thomas Humphries
Also I give and bequeath unto Elisabeth Humphries wife of the Revd Thomas
Humphries one negro wench named Nancy and one old negro wench Benah with the
increase of the same during her life and after her decease the said negroes
with their increase to belong to her son John Humphries and his heirs forever
Also I give and bequeath unto Hugh James Alison one negro fellow named Billy
and one negro fellow Andover to him and his heirs forever.
also I give and bequeath unto John Balloon Alsion son of Hugh James Alison
one negro boy Jack to him and his heirs forever
also I give and bequeath unto James Alison son of Francis Alison one negro boy
named Frank to him and his heirs forever
also I give and bequeath unto Frances Rebecca Alison daughter of Francis Alison
one negro Girl called Cathy with the future increase of the said negro Girl Caty
to her and her heirs forever
Also I give and bequeath unto William Green Balloon son of old William Balloon
one negro boy Jupitor to his heirs forever
Also I give and bequeath unto Nancy Davis wife of Benjamin Davis one negro wench
Named Sue one negro Girl named Hanah with the future Increase of the same to
her and the heirs of her body forever
Also I give to Thomas Port Davis son of Benjamin Davis one negro fellow Hector
too him and his heirs forever
Also I give and bequeath unto John Calhoun Davis one negro fellow Parrifs to
him and his heirs forever also I give and bequeath unto Margaret Davis wife
of William Davis one negro wench Barsheba with her future Increase and one
negro fellow John to her and her and the heirs of her body Heirs forever
Also I give and bequeath unto William Balloon the Elder One negro fellow
Anthony and old wench named Mary to him and his Heirs forever Also I give and
bequeath unto John Godfrey Eldest son of Richard Godfrey one boy named Leonard
to him and his heirs forever
Also I give and bequeath unto Nansey Godfrey daughter of Richard Godfrey
one Negro Girl named Amey with her future increase to her and her Heirs forever.
also I give and bequeath unto Benjamin Godfrey son of Richard Godfrey one
negro Girl named Creoa with her future Increase to him and his heirs forever.
Also I give and bequeath unto the remaining part of Richard Godreys children
One negro wench Fanny and her future increase to be equally divided among them
share and Share alike
Also I give and bequeath unto Rachel Graves daughter of Benjamin Davis one
negro fellow named Ben to her and the heirs of her body forever My will and
desire is that the sum of five pounds Sterling Shall be paid annually out of
the Legaties herein given according to their value unto John Evant for his
Life for his support and maintainance
Also my Will and desire is that all the Personal Property given away by me
of which different person has had possession of and exercised Ownership over
the same and paid the Taxes thereof shall remain to them and their heirs forever
Also I will that the whole of my Stock of any Kind Boats Flats Canoes Houshold
& Kitchen furniture and every part of my personal property (Excepting my
Wearing Apparel) which I may die possessed of which is not given away in this
will be sold and the neet proceeds together with the Debts owing to me be
Equaly divided among the Several legatees in this will and Ann Capers daughter
of Thomas Humphries Share and share alike My will is that my Wearing apparel
be divided among my Female relations
And Lastly I do hereby nominate/constitute and appoint my worthy friend
Thos Humphries and William Grant Esqr.. Attorney at law of Georgetown
my Executors to this my last will and Testament Revoking and making void all
former Wills and Testaments at any time heretofore by me made and
I do declare this to be my last Will and Testament
In Witness whereof I have hereunto Set my hand and Seal this Twenty fifth day
of February in the year of our Lord One Thousand eight hundred and Eleven and
in the thirty fifth year of American Independence signed Sealed delivered and
published by the within named Frances Port as and for her last will and
Testament in the presents of us who at her request and in her presents have
subscribed our names as witnesses thereto.
