WILL OF
JOHN ROPER
In the name of God amen I John Roper of the District of Marion State of
South Carolina being in common health of body and of sound and disposing
mind and memory and being desireous to settle my affairs do make and
publish this my last will and Testament hereby revoking and making void
all former wills by me at any time heretofore made in persuance it is
my will and desire that my Executors herein after to be named do pay all
my Just debts and funeral Expences out of my Estate
Item I give and bequeath unto my beloved wife Martha all my Lands and
tenements and all my household and Kitchen furniture plantation and farm-
ing tools and stock of Horses cattle and hogs only such as I shall dispose
of. here after and all the money that I may have and debts due to me which
I give to her during her natural life and no longer also I lend to her my
wife Martha the following named Negroes Dover Vine Alferd Warren Jerry Jin
Rob Rene all the above named property at the death of my wife Martha will
return to my children as I hereafter give it Item 3; I give unto my Son
John one nergroe boy named Revel who he had in pofsefsion Item 4, I give
unto my daughter Nancy wife of Herod Stackhouse one negroe girl named Dez
who she has in pofsefsion Item 5th, I give to my daughter Martha wife of
Isaac Stackhouse one negroe girl named Gin who she now has in pofsefsion
Item 6th, I give to my son Richard one negroe boy named Warran at the death
of my wife Martha Roper Item 7th, I give unto my son William one negroe boy
named Jerry at the same time Item 8th, I give unto my daughter Mary at the
death of my wife one negroe woman named Vine and one negroe boy named Bob
also I lend unto her the place which I now live on embracing the houses and
as much of lands as my Executors shall Judge sufficient for her maintaince
during her life or day of marriageand then the land to return to my son James
also if my daughter Mary shall die without lawful issue the negroe boy Bob
to return to my Estate Item 9th, I give unto my son James at the death of my
wife all the balance of the land that I now live on embracing the Mill and
Cotton Jin also one negroe boy named Alferd also at the death of my wife all
my household and Kitchen furniture and stock of all kinds to be Equally di-
vided between my daughter Mary and son James Item 10th, I give unto my daughter

Sarah wife of Thomas Bridges one hundred Dollars for her final part of
my Estate to be given by my Executors to Richard and William Roper and they
to give it to her as they see she has need of it Item 11th, It is my wish
and desire that all the balance of my property not disposed of heretofore
embracing the Wilson Tract of Land one negroe man named Dover Jin Rene and
all my Cash and debts due to me to be Equally divided between all my child-
ren mentioned in this will Except Sarah Bridges shear and shear alike and
I do constitute and appoint Isaac Stackhouse Herod Stackhouse and James Roper
Executors to this my last will and Testament in Witnefs whereof I have here-
unto set my hand and seal this 13th, March one thousand Eight hundred &
Forty signed seald and declared by the Said John Roper as his last will and
testament in the presance of us who at his request and in his presance and
in the presance of Each other have hereunto subscribed our names as witnefses
