JAMES HICKS Deed to THOMAS QUICK 1786

THIS INDENTURE the 28th day of Novemr in the year of Our Lord One thousand seven hundred & Seventy Six Between James Hicks in the province of South Carolina planter of the one part & Thomas Quick of the County & province aforesaid planter of the other part WITNESSETH, That the Said James Hicks for & in Consideration of the sum of two hundred pounds Current Lawful money of the aforesaid province of South Carolina to him in hand paid by the said Thomas Quick at or before the ensealing and delivery of these presents the receipt whereof He the said James Hicks both confess and acknowledge himself therewith fully Satisfyed Contented & paid and of every part & parcel thereof hath bargained & Sold & by these presents doth give grant bargain Sell Alien enfeoff make over & confirm unto the Said Thomas Quick his heirs & afsignes a certain parcel of Dividend of land in the County aforesaid Containing one hundred & twenty five acres lying & being in the fork of naked Creek the same being part of a tract of four hundred acres of land which was Originally granted to Joseph Johnston by his Excellency the Honorable Wm Bull Esqr Governor & Commander in chief in and over our said province of South Carolina, the Grant bearing date the eight day of December one thousand & seven hundred & Seventy four & was conveyed from the Said Joseph Johnston to the Said James Hicks the Seventeenth day of November one thousand seven hundred & Seventy five the said one hundred & seventy five acres hereby conveyed from the said James Hicks to Thomas Quick is ___ of this Beginning where the head line crosseth naked Creek thence down the said Creek to the ___ of the first branch on the west side of said Creek at an old Beaver pond thence up said Branch to the head where the said head line crosseth at the head of said branch there along along the said head line to the said naked Creek to the beginning for the compliment of One hundred & twenty five acres of Land by estimation more or less TO HAVE & TO HOLD the aforesaid bargained Land & premises Together with all & Singular the houses orchards Gardens woods 7 ways & waters with all the rights priviledges profits Commodities advantages improvements hereditaments & appurtenances to the Said Land belonging or in anywise appertaining to the Said Thomas Quick his heirs & afsignes forever to the only proper use and behoof of him the said Thos. Quick his heirs Exer admr & afsigns & he the Said James Hicks for himself & his heirs Execr & Admr Convenant and agree & Shall & will Warrant and forever defend the right of the above said One hundred & twenty five acres of Land & Premises to the above said Thomas Quick his heirs & afsigns forever against all & all manner of lawfull claims or demands whatsoever whereby the above mentioned Lands or premises might or may be affected or incumbered contrary to the will intent and meaning of these presents IN WITNESS whereof the Said James Hicks have hereunto set his hand & affixed his Seal the day and year herein first above written

CHERAW DISTRICT) Personally appeared before me George Hicks one of Justices afsignes to keep the peace for Said District. Robert Hicks who being duly Sworn on the holy evangelist of Almighty God saith that he did see James Hicks Sign Seal & as his act did deliver the within instrument of writing for the use & purpose therein mentioned and that he did see Jesse Baggett sign as a witness with himself to the Same~
