Willis Montgomery Matheson
son of James A. and Nora McLaurin Matheson
Born August 26th, 1918 in Charlotte, NC. He worked as and Engineer in Lavonia, GA until joining the army air corps in 1944. He received his training at the University of Tennesee an Airfield in Miami, FL and was stationed at Maxwell field in Alabama. While on training flight from Albany ,GA to Cordele, GA his B-25 crashed while attempting to land in Cordele, along with him were his flight instructor and a fellow cadet. They were all killed on June 1, 1945. He was awarded his wings Posthumously. He received a Military burial in the McLucas Cemetery, Clio SC. He was my uncle whom I never had met.
