THE DEATH ROLL.
Bennettsville, S. C., January 5 -
Captain Alexander Sparks died last night in his seventieth year. He was an old
South Carolina college student, having left that institution in 1847 to enter
the Mexican war. He remained in Mexico until the close of the hostilities.
His father was one of the largest slave holders in the Peedee valley.
Captain Sparks was noted for his unbounded hospitality and
insatiable love for hunting and fishing. Ex-judge J. H. Hudson, of our town,
will be one of the pallbearers.
