Bennettsville Youth Drowns

Bennettsville, Sept 13--(Special)--John B Whittington, 16-year-old son of Wesley and Mamie Huggins Whittington of Florence village was drowned, Sunday afternoon, while swimming at Burnt Factory.

Whittington with Harold McArthur and Albert Freeman were swimming when the youth suddenly went down without a cry. The boy's attempts to rescue him were unsuccessful and others nearby came into town for help. The body was recovered about 1 1/2 hours later by Joe Brown who dived until he found him.

Funeral services will be held at 4 o'clock Tuesday afternoon at Brownsville Church with the Rev Boyd McColl officiating.

He is survived by his parents; one sister, Dorothy; and one brother, James Allen.
