WILL OF COLONEL THOMAS LIDE In the name of God Amen I Thomas Lide of Marlborough County in the State of South Carolina being weak in body but of perfect mind and memory (Blefsed be god) do this seventh day of November in the year of our Lord one Thousand seven hundred and eighty seven make and publish this my last will and Testament in manner and form following (this is to say) I commend my soul to the hands of God who gave it me and my body to the earth from whence it came in hopes of a joyful resurrection through the merits of my Savior Jesus Christ and as for that worldly estate wherewith it has pleased God to blefs me I dispose there of as follows. First, I give and bequeath unto my beloved wife Mihetabel Lide fifty pounds Sterling money annually during her natural life to be made & raised out of the crops or profits of my plantation and paid to her by my executors or Administrators Annually in leu of her part or portion of my estate---also one bay horse called Randolph which I lately bought--- And Whenas my said wife at the time of my Marriage with her was entitled to a part of the estate of Charles Irby Esq. deceased and which by Special contract with her I was not to receive any part of---I do hereby give and bequeath Unto my Said Wife her Heirs and Afsigns forever all and every part and parcel of the Said Charles Irby's estate which I am or might have been entitled to in consequence of my Said marriage with her Secondly I give and devise unto my son John Lide his Heirs and Afsigns forever all and Singular My lands on the South west Side of Pee Dee River-Sd ["Son" inserted between lines here] John the use of the Field on the North east side of Pee Dee River which Howard Gregory Rented of me this present year 1787 until my son Thomas Lide Shall attain to the age of eighteen years and no longer and in case my son Thomas should never attain to that WILL OF COLONEL THOMAS LIDE PAGE 2 age Johns Term will expire at the time he would have attained it I also give and bequeath to my said son John Lide the following Negroes Viz2*. Jesper, Tinah, Jim, Young Jack and Old and young Beck with their future increase to hold to him and his Heirs and Afsigns forever Thirdly I give and devise unto my son Thomas Lide his Heirs and Afsigns forever five Hundred and Thirty five acres of land on the North East side of Peedee River adjoining the ferry and the Road to the Northward the river Peedee to the westward and a Tract of land Granted to John----Brown to the Southward it being in five tracts or part of tracts Vizt* . one of one hundred and Seventy five acres on the upper part it being the lower part of a Tract of land Granted to John Ellerbee one other of 150 Acres Joining on the river and two of 100 Acres each Joining on on the back of Sd*. 150 acre tract, and one other of 18 acres Granted to myself I also five and bequeath unto my Said son Thomas Lide the following Negroes Vizt*. Mark, Kate, Amy, Tom and Robin with their future increase to hold to my Sd*. Son Thomas his Heirs & Afsigns forever Fourthly I give and devise unto my Son Robert Lide his Heirs and Afsigns forever two hundred and seventy four acres and and half of land on the North East Side of Peedee River in two tracts one being part of a tract Granted to John Brown as before referred to adjoining on the River, the other a tract of forty nine acres and an half Granted to myself and lying on Phills Creek. I also give and bequeath Unto my Said Son Robert the following Negroes, Vizt*. Jack, Maggy, New Negro Tom, June & Susy with their future increase to my Sd*. Son Robert his Heirs and Afsigns forever WILL OF COLONEL THOMAS LIDE PAGE 3 Fifthly I give and devise unto my son Charles Mott Lide his Heirs and Afsigns forever and one hundred and sixty seven acres and an half of land more or lefs on the North east side of Peedee River it being the upper half of apart of a Tract of land Granted to Thomas Ellerbee deceased to be divided by a line to begin on the river half way between the upper and lower line of Sd*. Tract and run out such a course as will divide it into two equal parts I also give and bequeath to my Said Son Charles the following Negroes Vizt*. Jo, Cuffy, York, Annikee & Sam with their future increase to hold to my Sd*. Son Charles his Heirs & Afsigns forever Sixthly I give and devise unto my daughter Anne Lide her Heirs and Afsigns forever one hundred and Sixty seven Acres and an half of land more or lefs the North East side of Peedee River it being the lower half of a Tract of land, the upper half of which I have given to my son Charles Mott Lide and which was Granted to Thomas Ellerbee deceased I also give and bequeath unto my Sd*. Daughter Anne the following Negores Vizt*. Moll, Ben, Isbell, Dan and Sarah and their future Increase to hold to my Sd*. daughter her Heirs and Afsigns forever I also will and devise that my beloved wife take my said daughter Anne to raise and educate And that she take my Said daughters Negro Moll to Spin for & wait upon her until my Sd*. daughter shall marry or come of age. Seventhly I give and devise unto my son James Wilson Lide his Heirs and Afsigns forever Six hundred and twenty two acres of land on the north east side of Peedee River in three Tracts Vizt*. one of one hundred and fifty Acres Whereon I now live w_ the buildings &C one other of two hundred and fifty acres that I bought of James Blanton and one other of two hundred and twenty two acres Granted to myself by a late Grant. I also give and devise unto my Sd*. Son James on other WILL OF COLONEL THOMAS LIDE PAGE 4 tract of 300 acres of land which I bought of Allexander Gordan if the Same should be recovered out of the pofsefseon of Morgan Brown & John Wilson and if not whatever Sum or Sums of money that may be recovered from the executors to take such equitable or lawfullmans as they in their Wisdom May think best for the recovery of the Sd*. land in the Value thereof & I do hereby ratify and confirm whatever they may do in and about the same Eightly it is my will and desire that my Executors and Administrators immediately after my deceased caused to be sold at public Vendue, giving twelve months credit on bonds and approved Security for principal &c Interest my Negro Hampton with all my household furniture & C Stock of every Kind ( except a dozen Milk Cows &C as many breeding Sows for the use of my plantation &C also except working tools &C workHorses. And that the money therefrom by applied first towards the payments of all my Just debts and the remainder if any then should be to be put to interest for and equally divided among my before mentioned children each to have their part paid them as they become of age- My daughter Mary Wilson as I have heretofore give her that portion of my Estate allotted her on her marriage with Mr. Wilson I make no further provision for her.- Ninethly I give and bequeath unto my beloved Son John Lide Five Cows and Calves and one feather bed and furniture to him his Heirs and Afsigns I also give to my Sd*. son John one thousands Weight of porks and Six hundred bushels of Corn Tenthly I revoke the Eighth Clause of this my will so far as relates to Household furniture and desire that it remain the house Where I now live for the benefit of the person Who may live in the Same WILL OF COLONEL THOMAS LIDE PAGE 5 Tenthly I declare this to be my last will and Testament Revoking and Making Nul and Void all former Writing of that kind in Wtinefs Whereof I have her unto set my hand and Seal the day and the year above written.
