Welcome to
The SCGenWebTM  Project
South Carolina Genealogy and History

Researching in South Carolina can be a frustrating experience due to its unusual system of jurisdictional and geographic evolution. We have a number of resources to help you understand and sort through the evolution of the counties through time. We are also building Special Project pages to assist in researching specific eras and ethnic groups. Our pages change as new data is added so be sure to have a look at "old" pages now and then to see what's new!

Please take the time to explore these pages, and by all means, let us know of any additions you'd like to see!

    crops of the Low Country

    ETHNIC RESEARCH:

  • African American Research
African Americans in South Carolina enjoy a rich heritage of culture and language. Notable in the Low County are the "Gullah".
  • First People
Long before Europeans arrived on its shores, South Carolina was populated by numerous Native American tribes.
  • Southern Gypsy Records
    Yes, "Gypsy" research!
Some of the Hessian mercenaries who stayed on in the colonies had "gypsy" ancestry and there were free Moors in Colonial South Carolina. You may well find your elusive ancestor in these pages prepared by Frank Clark and Linda Griggs.
