George Ward

Mr. George Ward Passed Away Monday

George Ward, 71, passed at his home in West Dillon Monday shortly after noon following a stroke of paralysis ten days ago from which he never fully rallied, caused, it was believed from over exertion.

Mr. Ward was a member of the Frist Baptist Church, loyal in his chuch work and strong in his convictions of right. He was highly esteemed by his associates.

Funeral services were conducted by Dr. J.A. Ward, pastor of the First Baptist church, at 10:30 Tuesday morning at Pleasant Grove Church and intermentwas in the church cemetery. A large concourse of friends and relatives attended. Mr. Ward's love of flowers was the inspiration for the many lovely floral tributes that covered the mound.

The pallbearers were G.P. Price, Robert Hamilton, Roy Sawyer, Albert Arnette, I. H. McKenzie and Wallie Hyatt.

Mr. Ward is survived by his widow, three sons, one daughter, and one sister, Mrs. W.E. Squires of Dillon.


[NOTE: not mentioned in the obituary: George Franklin Ward was the son of the late Colin Ward and the late Elizabeth Jane Rowell Ward of Dillon. His first wife, former Miss Mary Amanda Gaddy, predceased him and his widow is the former Miss Flora Jane Baxley. --rr]
