Dillon Herald Thursday June 14, 2001 Vol 106 #99


Lt Col Edgar DuRant Hayes, US Army (RET), 86, passed away Sunday, June 10, 2001. He was born in Little Rock, SC and had resided in Jacksonville for 45 years.

Mr Hayes retired from the State of Florida Department of Health after 25 years of service in 1980. He retired from the US Army and was a member of Arlington United Methodist Church. A son, James E Hayes preceded him in death.

Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Elizabeth M Hayes; his children, Richard D Hayes of Champaign, Ill., Elizabeth Ann Wichman and her husband Marc of Jacksonville; Barbara Hayes Waters of Martinez, Ga., and Donald C Hayes and his wife Phyllis of Sandston, Va., and four grandchildren. A funeral service was held at 11 am Wednesday June 13, 2001 in the chapel of the Arlington Park Funeral Home with Rev Ken Minton and Rev Kenneth Mixon officiating. Interment followed in Arlington Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in his name to the American Cancer Society, Duval County Unit, 4030 Boulevard Center Dr., Jacksonville, 32207.
